In February, I had the honor and privilege of traveling to Gainesville, FL to spend a day with a group of their supervisors and commanders, as part of their in-house Leadership Academy.
Last month, I received the below communication from the Academy organizers, Sgt. Ploude and Sgt. Ward.
Thanks for the opportunity and the kind words gentlemen. I hope that we get to work together again.
Chief Wynn –
I wanted to take a minute and follow up with you on your presentation to members of the Gainesville Florida Police Department’s Leadership Academy on February 19th, 2016.
Though your presentation was designed to be a one-day block of instruction, many of the members (which consisted of our department’s front-line supervisors) left the class wanting more. All of the feedback we got was extremely positive. In fact, we hope to be able to arrange for you come back this year.
The material you presented was relevant, up to date, and presented in a way that we all felt connected to your agency and style of leadership. Several members of the class remarked after you left that they wished Mike Wynn could be added to our command staff. Many members of our group had previously read your book “Rising Through the Ranks”. They liked that your instruction followed along with topics and themes made in the book. It helped “send the message home”.
Not only was it was greatly appreciated that you emailed every member of the class prior to coming to Gainesville, but that you also followed up with the class afterwards. For example, by giving them your PowerPoint presentation you have given them a tool they can refer to for many years to come. This type of follow-up by an instructor is rare to see and was very much appreciated. In all, it was a great class that was enjoyed by all and we sincerely appreciate the time you gave to our department. We were fortunate to have crossed paths and look forward to working with you in the future.
Thank you again,
Sergeant’s Marc Plourde and Charlie Ward
Gainesville Police Department
